Last Thursday, July 31, 2025, QETEL organized a lecture on the work “Optimising investment portfolios using quantum computing” by Professor Antonio Falcó Montesinos, director of the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Technological Sciences at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University in Valencia.

It was a pleasure to welcome Professor Falcó and to have the opportunity to offer the event both online and in person at the Edificio Multiusos I+D+i at the University of Salamanca. Antonio Falcó presented his research on Quantum Computing accompanied by professors Javier Parra Domínguez and Ana Belén Gil González from the University of Salamanca, as well as Guillermo Rivas Oliveros, a researcher at QETEL.

Professor Falcó explained to attendees the two types of quantum computing: Quantum Annealers, designed to solve optimization problems, and Digital Quantum Computers, related to IBM or Google. From an industry perspective, Antonio Falcó explained that there is a difference in efficiency in favor of Quantum Annealers. However, most research is focused on Digital Quantum Computers. Professor Falcó's research seeks to answer the question of what types of problems are best solved using a quantum computer.

Attendees, both online and in person, had the opportunity to ask Antonio Falcó questions about his work. In addition, as a contributor to the event, there was a presentation on the International Chair in Reliable AI and Demographic Challenge (DemIA) and its work in artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

QETEL would like to express its sincere gratitude to Antonio Falcó Montesinos for coming to Salamanca and giving us the opportunity to learn more about his work. The entire conference is available on video via this link.
